Frederick Lucius (Ted) Fitzpatrick 1943 – 2024

A life well lived

Ted Fitzpatrick passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at his home in Moncton’s Franklin Crossing neighbourhood. Born in Montreal on May 14, 1943, he spent his formative years in Ottawa. He enlisted in the Canadian Forces signal corps on completion of high school, and after six years of military service in Germany returned to civilian life to resume his education. He then launched a successful business career, working for several large corporations before opening his own boat and recreational vehicle dealership in Barry’s Bay, Ontario. It was there that he met Gerry (Ostroskie), his wife of 46 years.

He eventually transitioned into the real estate business, where he operated his own brokerage, later relocating to British Columbia, where they lived in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kamloops and Kelowna. He continued his real estate career, and in Kelowna was co-founder of the Okanagan Jurassic Riders motorcycle club. In addition to organizing fundraising events for prostate cancer, he and Gerry travelled extensively throughout western Canada and the US on his big bike.

Their move to Moncton in 2016 was prompted by a search for cleaner air, as Ted’s respiratory condition was being increasingly compromised by wildfire smoke in BC. They happily settled in Franklin Crossing, adjacent to Centennial Park, where Ted became a major driving force behind the formation of a neighbourhood association.

In addition to Gerry, Ted leaves his son Tim, daughter Laura, and grandson Tristan, in Tiverton ON; sister Janice of Moncton; niece Tara Brown and family and nephew Seamus; as well as dear friend Margaret Jackson of Kelowna. Gerry would like to express sincere gratitude to the personnel of Ambulance New Brunswick and the Moncton Fire Department for their prompt and efficient responses during Ted’s recent illness.

Cremation has taken place. At his request, there will be no funeral service or visitation.
